Alas, purple throbbing monster, I knew you well

Not entirely unexpectedly (e.g. kuang was right all along), the car is not worth repairing... when it was actually elevated enough to have a good look underneath (hard for me to do on a busy street) it was obvious that the corrosion had spread to too much of the rear undercarraige. And so it must pass on, sadly with a mere 177,000 miles on the clock. A replacement will be sought, which I must resolve to look after better.

I'm supposed to be running a 10K tomorrow, but I have a head cold and, of course, no car- and the race is in Wargrave, to which there is no train service on Sunday. Can I face taking the bike on the train to Twyford and cycling from there? Argh... And then, what's worse, doing the reverse to get back home... double argh!
