Product key = long code on the back of the retail wallet = what you need to enter to install XP = I thought it was supposed to be t0p s3kr!t once you'd sent it to Microsoft for the activiation thing (after whihc, you shouldn't need the key itself, you should be given a certificate from Microsoft saying they've checked it... and some hash to that they can easily spot people using certs from the same product key on multiple machines outside their license conditions).
