Heh, I've just discovered that Emacs can read/write Unicode files and automagically translate for a Latin-1/9 terminal :) And that the latest version of PuTTY can work as a UTF-8 terminal :)

I've also reinstalled Debian on monolith because the faffing around to work with a /usr that was far too small was getting on my nerves. So it's now much more sane, and I installed all the xfonts-* and ttf-* packages along with KDE and OpenOffice, just because I could.

Putty has been doing for at least 2 versions that i've been using it for.
